WTF Is Up With Qore Episode 1?

While I was feeling a lot better about getting an annual subscription to Sony’s ‘New Media Magazine’ Qore, I’m starting to feel a little apprehensive.

Seems that the promised SOCOM: Confrontation beta that came with Episode 1 is FINALLY materializing on September 8, and will last until September 30.

This seems like good news, and rest assured I’ll be glad to play it, but there’s something here that… well… it pisses me off.

Get the rest inside.

UPDATED INFO (11:45AM MST)

While 3 weeks of beta play sounds good, and it might be the best thing since sliced bread (I think sliced bread is overrated, but that’s another rant), if you pre-order SOCOM: Confrontation at Gamestop you’ll get EARLY and LONGER access to the beta.

Gamers who pre-order get access on September 1.

So, let’s see… the Qore subscription got me:

  • SOCOM beta invite I can get with a pre-order (which I already have)
  • Naruto fighting game demo that showed up in the PS Store a week later
  • Resistance 2 beta invite… but only if you got the annual subscription

Seriously, waiting for the other shoe to drop for the R2 beta. There’s gotta be a catch in it somewhere.

C’mon guys, this could have been worth it. Stop with the attaching of strings, and just give us what you promised.

Even though I’ve already given one out this week, I think this calls for a ‘Jackass Of The Week’ award.

Great job guys, you earned it… JACKASS!

UPDATE: It just gets weirder. After Veronica Belmont’s comment (see below), the Official Playstation Blog she refers to has been updated, with a strike-through on the text indicating that the beta is available for Episode 3 purchasers.

Meanwhile, Abigail Murphy (official Sony person) has posted in a response to another visitor concerned about availability of the beta in Europe:

“If you purchase Qore Episode 03, or an annual subscription, you are in for a real treat – with premier access to the Resistance 2 Public Beta. “

Which is it guys? My emails and phone calls to clarify the situation have so far gone unanswered.

To boot (pun intended) the ‘other shoe’ with the Resistance 2 beta has dropped; just like the SOCOM beta, Qore subscribers will have to wait a week longer for beta access than Gamestop preorder holders.

I’m getting hungry… you wouldn’t like me when I’m hungry.

I’ll keep you posted.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: Ok, it’s sorted out. Ms. Belmont was working off old information and wasn’t informed of the change. Hey, happens to the best of us.

Confirmed:

  • The Resistance 2 beta through Qore will be available for ANNUAL SUBCRIBERS ONLY.
  • Veronica handled my rant with much aplomb and politeness.
  • I still think whoever is making these decisions is a jackass.

Now, everyone can get back to whatever it is they do… like insulting people on the internet.

  1. Only other thing I noticed is that if you reserve your copy from the major game store chain, you do also receive two friend codes to give out to your buddies so you can tag along a couple of pals to the beta starting on Sept. 1st.

Other than that… I agree… kind of stupid for them to not honor the people who subscribed to Qore for the beta, but rather smack ’em in the face because they didn’t reserve it first. Ah well, I guess it’s a business thing.

  2. Hey guys. You don’t need to get the annual subscription to get the Resistance 2 beta invite. On the Playstation Blog, it says:

“If you purchase Qore Episode 03, or an annual subscription, you are in for a real treat – with premier access to the Resistance 2 Public Beta.”

    Hope this clears things up!

  3. Sorry Veronica, I’m sticking with the story… maybe we can get someone to clear it up for sure?

    Hey everyone,

This is Bryan Intihar, community manager for Insomniac Games. Just to clarify a few points about the Resistance 2 public beta.

*You must purchase a subscription to Qore–not just episode 3–to gain premier access to the Resistance 2 public beta.
*As we’ve stated in the past, there will be MULTIPLE ways of getting into the Resistance 2 public beta. The subscription to Qore is just ONE way. Stay tuned over the next few weeks for more details.
