Lost: Season 4 Review

lostseason4Season 4 of ABC’s hit TV show, LOST is now out on DVD and Blu-ray. Before I start my review, let me just say: if you’re not a fan of the show, stop reading now. If you are a fan of the show, but haven’t watched season 4, keep in mind that this review will contain spoilers. That being said let’s take a look at LOST: Season 4 on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Season 4 takes place right after Charlie’s death. After the survivors split into two groups, a series of events take place that gives you more information about the scientists from the freighter and eventually leads to the Oceanic Six getting off the island. There are also a series of flashbacks that give you more information on Michael’s reappearance on the island and flashforwards that show you what happens to the Oceanic Six after getting back to their old lives. As usual with LOST, a lot of questions are answered and a lot more new questions arise. This is a really good season chock full of good episodes.

Moving on to the special features, season 4 has a lot of great features. First up is a commentary for the season finale with executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. While this commentary doesn’t give away any hints into the story of LOST, it does reveal some interesting facts behind the making of the show. Plus these guys are pretty funny.

Next on the list of special features is the Course of the Future special. After putting some scenes in the right order, a new menu is unlocked that gives you the option to watch all the flashforwards of season 4 in chronological order. You also get the option to follow a specific character as you watch the flashforwards. While this is available on both Blu-ray and DVD, the Blu-ray includes additional information.

Also on the list of special features are bloopers, deleted scenes, LOST in 8:15 (a quick look at everything you need to know about the first 3 seasons in 8 minutes and 15 seconds), The Oceanic Six: A Conspiracy of Lies (a controversial underground commentary questioning the survivors of Oceanic 815), as well as a number of features that take a look behind the scenes of the show.

So is it worth a buy? Do I really have to ask? If you’re a fan of the show, this is a must have part of the collection. And unless you don’t have a blu-ray player of some variety, there’s no reason not to get the Blu-ray. It looks so much better, to the point of noticing little things that you wouldn’t catch on TV or DVD. Go BUY IT. Go buy it now. Haven’t watched the show yet? Rent season 1. If you like it, buy the series. This is a great show, and if you don’t watch every episode you’re missing out on a lot.
