I’ve always been a fan of the Wallace & Gromit cartoons, so when I heard there was a Wallace & Gromit game, I had to try it out. Keep reading to find out what I thought of the first two episodes of the Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures series.
For anyone who doesn’t know, the Wallace & Gromit cartoons are about an inventor with a love for cheese and knitwear who, despite his best efforts and intentions, always seems to be getting himself into trouble. Lucky for Wallace, he has his ever loyal dog Gromit to help get him out of trouble. The game released by Telltale and Aardman feature these same two loveable characters in a four episode series. The first two episodes are available now, with the second two coming to PC in June and July of this year. Purchasing the full series will also include the Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures Collector’s DVD, containing the four games plus bonus content for just the cost of shipping shortly after the final episode is released.
Playing the game is a lot like watching the cartoons, except you get to control the characters. You get to solve the problems using items found around the house and neighborhood. While this can get a little complicated at times, all you need to remember is to think like Wallace and Gromit. The more out-of-the-box thinking you do, the more likely you’ll find the solution. If you do happen to get stuck just hop on over to www.telltalegames.com/wallaceandgromit (the same place you purchase the game) and pull up the walkthrough for the game.
The graphics in this game are really well done and are very reminiscent of the animation from the cartoons. There were some moments when the graphics lag for a second, but nothing that affects the game. Controls for the game are very simple. Move Wallace or Gromit with the arrow keys, and use the mouse buttons to select items. Shift opens up your inventory and Esc pauses the game.
So is the game worth the $34.95 price tag? If you’re a fan of Wallace & Gromit or are looking for a puzzling game that will make you think outside of the box, this is definitely worth it. If not, this might not be the game for you. Not sure if you want to buy it yet? Check out www.telltalegames.com/wallaceandgromit for a demo.
This game will also be coming soon to Xbox LIVE Arcade if you’d rather play the game on a console than on a PC.
