Blu-Ray Review: A Bug’s Life

bugsOne of my all-time favorite Disney/Pixar movies, A Bug’s Life, is now available on blu-ray! Wanna know what I thought? Flip over to the other side and find out!

When it was originally released on VHS ten years ago, A Bug’s Life was pretty. The transfer to blu-ray is awesome. The images look even better. So what about the special features? There are a lot of extras included on the blu-ray. Are they any good?

First on the list is the animated short Geri’s Game. For anyone who doesn’t remember the short, Geri’s Game is about an old man playing chess with himself. Despite the fact that this may sound boring, hilarity ensues. Also included from the original release are the outtakes that played during the credits. If you haven’t seen these, check them out. They’re hilarious.

Next up is the Filmmakers’ Roundtable. This features the four main filmmakers sitting down and discussing the movie ten years after the fact. They talk about troubles they faced, obstacles they had to overcome, and things they enjoyed about making the movie. This is actually very interesting. It gives you a look behind the scenes that only the directors and producers can give you. This is followed by a series of featurettes that delve even deeper into the making of the film. All of these show not only how much fun they had, but how much work truly went into the movie.

Also thrown into the mix of special features are an audio commentary, previews for other Disney movies, an animated look into the first draft of the film (narrated by Dave Foley), and a Walt Disney Silly Symphony: Grasshopper and the Ants from 1934. As with most Disney blu-rays, you also have access to the Disney BD-Live Network where you can chat and watch the movie with other people on the network, compete in movie related games, send messages linked to scenes in the movie, and access your Disney Movie Rewards.

If you haven’t guessed already, I thoroughly enjoyed this blu-ray. If you’re a fan of the movie go buy it. I’ve even given you a link so you can go buy it now. If for some reason you’ve never seen the movie but you enjoy other films from Pixar, go buy this. A Bug’s Life is one of their best. So what are you waiting for? Here’s the link!
