When I first heard of this game I thought EH!?! A trading company really… but the more I learn and the more I see the more intrigued I am. And lets face it who of us with an imagination hasn’t ever wanted to be the pirate, sail the high seas, waring with other trading companies, sinking their ships or boarding them and taking them over. I really like the sound of Epic Naval Battles. Okay maybe it’s just me but I don’t think so. Learn more here…
With both single player and multiplayer modes, your goal will be to build the most powerful trading empire. There will even be head-to-head missions available. Yes as the name suggests you will be trading, silks and spices among other things. In order to do this effectively you will need to control strategic ports, take over colonies to increase your empire, establish profitable trade routes, negotiate with your keen sense of diplomacy or declare war against your enemies.
The dynamic monetary system they have incorporated into this game will take as much strategy to manage as waring with other companies will. You will only be able to trade in ports that you control or in ports you are allied with. You will make the most profit delivering goods to ports that cannot obtain them except through trade. You will also have to manage the finances required to run your fleet.
There will be eight playable nations: England, France, Holland, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Spain & the Holy Roman Empire. There will be ten ship types available large and small. You will have the RTS option where you command multiple ships or you will be able to choose Direct command of a single ship. The game will offer tracked stats on the EIC game server and up to 8 simultaneous players over Local Area Network or the Internet.
The play looked smooth and the controls seemed as though they will be easy to understand and navigate. I’ll let you know more after I get to play the game. It is set to release on July 28, 2009.
This game is due to release in the US on July 28, 2009. Looks like I might be playing a lot more strategy this year… after sitting down with Paradox Interactive at E3 this year I don’t think I am going to have a life outside work and my computer by the time Christmas rolls around.
