A cute , colorful, cartoon land where you get to be a fairytale character and slice everyone to bits? That’s right it’s a hack and slash…
Developed by Playlogic Netherlands and using the unreal 3 engine plus some of their own technology, Fairytale Fights takes you into a world of books. From the mountains of books in the background to the storyline itself every thing is focused around books, odd for a video game you say… well it works for them. You get to choose a fairytale character to play with (the ones we got to see were little red riding hood and snow white). Once you have chosen your once upon a time character you collect up a weapon and start slashing. Its a quest for fame and glory.
The bad guys are the loggers but you can go about slashing everything, even the other players if you wish. As you deliver the killing blow a scroll pops up on the side showing a real time movie animation of the kill so you can see it up close and personal. With the slice technology they are using each slice is unique.
The left joystick controls your movement and the right joystick controls your slashing arm. With over 100 weapons in the game this becomes a contest to see how many ways you can take out your opponents. You can even pick up smaller enemies and use them as weapons. (This makes me giggle) You can throw your weapon to kill a bad guy and then retrieve it and keep using it. If you don’t have a weapon in your hand, you can kick and hit.
There of course is blood, lots and lots of blood. They have developed what they called a Dynamic Volumetric Blood System (liquid system) so as the blood splatters you can slip in it, track it around by walking through it, etc.
You with gather pickups and break open chests to get thing. There are wishing wells scattered throughout the game. These are a gamble…you throw some money in and you never know what will come out, could be good or it could be bad.
Geared toward the casual gamer, but easy enough to play that the non-gamer can pick it up and play too. The game will support up to four player mulitplayer with the ability to drop into or out of the game at any time without disrupting the game play. You will be able to play co-op or VS mode. YES the game will support achievements/trophies.

I am really stoked about this game. This looks like it will be a lot of fun, especially the vs. mode. The game play I got to see at E3 looked flawless and smooth. I can’t wait for a chance to play it myself. Fairytale Fights (Xbox 360, PS3, and PC) is expected for the holidays 2009, and it will have a mature rating.
