Product Review: Sega Genesis Portable Handheld

sega-handheldI recently got my hands on a handheld device that features 20 Sega Genesis games. Wanna know if it’s worth the $50 price tag? Catch my review on the other side.

The Sega Genesis Portable Handheld is a relatively small device. The overall size is not much larger than a cell phone with a 2.4″ LCD screen. It comes preloaded with the following games:

  • Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
  • Alien Storm
  • Altered Beast
  • Arrow Flash
  • Columns 3
  • Crack Down
  • Decap Attack
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • Ecco
  • Ecco Jr
  • ESWAT: City Under Siege
  • Flicky
  • Gain Ground
  • Golden Axe
  • Jewel Master
  • Kid Chameleon
  • Shadow Dancer
  • Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master
  • Sonic and Knuckles
  • Sonic Spinball

While it is a lot of fun to be able to go back and play Sega Genesis games on a portable device, I encountered a couple problems with the device. The first problem is the size of the screen. With some of the games, it’s difficult to read the words on the screen. This is easily remedied with an A/V cable and a TV, but this only works if you’re playing at home. The only other problem I found with the device is the inability to save your game. So if you exit out, you have to start over from the beginning.

If you’re looking for a handheld device to casually play Sega Genesis games, this is definitely a nice way to go. If you want to get more seriously into your games, you might want to try something else. Wanna buy one? Click on the link below!
